Sunday, April 6th, 2014 marked the kick-off for Off the Grid: Picnic at the Presidio’s second season. Off the Grid is a seasonal picnic that features over 25 local food purveyors, beer and wine, coffee, produce, music and retail.
The event takes place at the Main Post Lawn in the Presidio of San Francisco. This area of the Presidio is often referred to as the birthplace of San Francisco. With much of the architecture reflecting the influence of the Spanish, the US Army and the expansion of America as a whole, dating all the way back to 1776; every period of time has its distinct mark in the park.
As you make your way to the picnic grounds, you will pass a row of wood-framed houses. These homes were constructed in 1862 and Funston Avenue, where these homes reside, is known as the oldest intact streetscape in the city!
The city has taken care in preserving this district of the Presidio and continues to bring new light to these iconic structures. For example, the red brick buildings adjacent to the main post lawn are now home to the Walt Disney Family Museum.
This truly is the perfect place to have a picnic. There are stunning views of The Golden Gate Bridge, The Bay and Angel Island. Not to mention, you’re surrounded by lush green grass and trees.
There are morning yoga sessions taught by The Pad Studios just before the picnic begins, lawn games offered by the Sports Basement and a dj spinning throughout the day. It’s a great daytime spot for your friends, family and pups!
Now, on to the really good stuff, the food! Salumeria’s signature sandwich this season is porchetta, which is roasted on the spitfire and served with fennel preserve, salsa verde and caramelized onion on a rosemary potato roll.
Other offerings include:
Salumi sandwich with provolone, oil + vinegar, aioli & lettuce.
Chopped salad with avocado, ham & sunflower seed vinaigrette.
Barley salad with green garlic pesto.
Cheese & lavash board with three cheeses, honey, fruit & crostini.
Salumi board with cured meats, olives, pickles & whole grain mustard.
Kids peanut butter and jam with sweets & milk.
Chocolate chip cookies
Whey lemonade.
Chips.
These items may change throughout the picnic’s season.
We’re so excited for what’s to come this season! See you all soon!
